A WiFi Point to Point (PtP) system functions similarly to a WiFi extender but entails a slightly more intricate setup process. In a PtP configuration, one unit is installed on the exterior of your main property, while the other is placed on another building’s exterior. These units establish a wireless connection between them, transmitting the WiFi signal from one end to the other. It’s crucial to note that both units require connection to power sockets for operation. For optimal performance, a clear line of sight between the two units is essential, free from any obstructions like trees or other buildings.
Pros:
Secure Connection: Point to Point systems offer a secure WiFi connection, ensuring the privacy and integrity of your data transmission.
Suitable for Large Voids: Ideal for larger areas where the distance between the main property and the second building is significant, making it impractical to run a physical cable between the two locations.
Reliable Connectivity: PtP setups provide highly reliable internet connection, even over considerable distances, making them well-suited for uninterrupted online activities.
Cons:
Complex Installation: Compared to some other methods, such as WiFi extenders, Point to Point systems may require a more involved installation process, potentially involving mounting equipment and adjusting alignment.
Higher Price Point: PtP systems typically come with a higher price tag compared to alternatives like WiFi extenders or powerline networking, which may be a consideration for budget-conscious users.
Line of Sight Dependency: The effectiveness of a Point to Point setup relies heavily on maintaining a clear line of sight between the two units. Any obstructions, such as trees or structures, can degrade the signal quality and impact performance.
WiFi Point to Point systems offer a secure and reliable solution for extending internet connectivity to garden rooms, particularly in cases where running a physical cable is impractical.
